After 10+ years in Silicon Valley’s tech startup and venture capital space we realized two important problems needed to be solved. The first is general public’s difficulty accessing the best developers. Companies like Google, Facebook, Amazon and Apple have multi-million dollar budgets to recruit top talent around the world and small to medium business can’t come close to competing with them. Sure you can find freelancers, college grads, or outsourced developers in China or India but in order to be successful, you need to have the best.
The other problem is related to project experience and equity. The typical pattern in technology (as well as every industry) is for people to work in one company at a time for 5-10 years. For a talented technologist, how do you bet on the right company or vertical when you can only choose one.
Our solution was to put together the best team possible by offering exposure, experience, partnerships, and in some cases equity to multiple companies at the same time. This way employees have a portfolio of companies that they work for instead of one. In exchange many startups and mid-level businesses have access to talent that they would have a hard time getting just by themselves.
